RE:FI STHLM advises on award-winning green infrastructure project

RE:FI STHLM acted as local counsel to the lenders in connection with the financing of the water treatment plant (WTP) supporting Stegra’s pioneering green steel project in Boden, Sweden. The WTP is a critical part of Europe’s first large-scale green hydrogen steel facility, treating process water, supplying ultra-pure water for electrolysers, and recycling approximately 99.9% of the water used in the steel production process.

The transaction was recently recognised with the IJGlobal ESG Infrastructure Deal of the Year (2025) award, including acknowledgement of RE:FI STHLM’s involvement. The award ceremony was held on 9 October 2025 in London, celebrating outstanding achievements in sustainable infrastructure and project financing.

RE:FI STHLM’s engagement covered local legal due diligence, Swedish law aspects of the financing, preparation and negotiation of security documentation under Swedish law, and coordination with cross-border counsel throughout the financing.

This recognition highlights the significance of the project in advancing sustainable industrial infrastructure and underscores RE:FI STHLM’s expertise in advising on complex cross-border green finance transactions.
